Successful Pre Commissioning Ceremony for 50 000m3 Caofeidian project
On October 10th 2011, the Caofeidian desalination plant has been pre commissioned and first water produced from the 50 000m3 Reverse Osmosis plant constructed by Aqualyng Holding AS and Beijing Enterprises Water Group Limited (BEWG). Simultaneously, a ceremony was held to announce the plan for supply of 1 million m3 of potable water to Beijing City using reverse osmosis desalination.
The Caofeidian desalination plant is the landmark project of Aqualyng Holding AS and is the first seawater desalination project in China by an international developer, with Chinese non recourse financing. The RO plant is delivered with the patented Aqualyng energy recovery system, the Recuperator™, ensuring the lowest life-cycle cost on the market.
The project was awarded November 2009 and construction kicked off March 15, 2010. With a construction period of 18 months only, this sets a new standard for the execution of large scale desalination projects in the growing Chinese water market.
“This is a proud moment for Aqualyng and our partner BEWG”, says Aqualyng Chairman Bernt Osthus. “With the limited experience with large scale desalination in China, a project delivery On time and On budget is a strong proof of the capabilities of our team. We look forward to continue and expand our cooperation with BEWG, both for future phases of the Caofeidian project and for the newly announced delivery of 1 million m3 for Beijing. China is the prime focus market for our company moving forward, and with the Caofeidian project, we have secured a strong platform for future growth in one of the most dynamic desalination markets globally.”
